News for October 2026!
What happened in October 2026 at Phyto-info… we tell you all about it!
Hello everyone 🌿
According to a study published in the journal Plants, common buckwheat cultivation is not a recent phenomenon. It is believed to have originated out of love between China and the Himalayas several thousand years ago. While historians still debate its exact route over the centuries, common buckwheat is thought to have appeared in Europe as early as the Middle Ages. It may have passed through Spain under Arab influence, which would explain the origin of its name. Today, with China, Russia, Ukraine, and France among its largest producers, it can be found as cooked, hulled seeds with butter in Russia, as soup in Germany, as poultry feed in the United States, or in the form of “galettes” in Brittany. And it wasn’t until the 1970s that its secret ingredient was discovered 🧐
And what is its secret ingredient?
It is rutin, a powerful antioxidant once named vitamin P (for Permeability) by biochemist Albert Szent-Györgyi due to its beneficial effects on blood vessels. Common buckwheat, a concentrate of circulatory benefits, is even better absorbed when paired with vitamin C, the perfect excuse to drizzle a splash of lemon juice over the galettes. The cherry on top, it is naturally 100% gluten-free, making it an ideal ingredient for people with celiac disease or those concerned about their digestive comfort.
We invite you to discover all the secrets of the common buckwheat on our website 🥰
