June 2023 news!
What happened in June 2023 at Phyto-info… We'll tell you all about it!
Hello everyone 🌿
In a small corner of the garden, we sowed blue mallow (Malva sylvestris) to be able to photograph it and illustrate our plant sheet when the time comes. Our seedling was ravaged by disastrous spring rains and hungry slugs. From this natural selection, we only saved two small plants.
Mothering them more than reason, our two survivors finally arrive in bloom. And then, oh surprise, the flowers are not, as expected, a beautiful purplish pink, but a magnificent purple. Look for the error!
In fact, we planted a variation ofMalva Sylvestris, Mauritania. Obviously, both belong to the same family, but do they have the same properties? This is less certain…
Like our selection of the month, although nettles that don’t sting (or striped if you want to talk technical when talking with friends) share the same name and a certain resemblance to “real” nettles, they differ in their constituents and, therefore, in their properties.
Added plants 👏
The four lamiers, according to Fournier, can be used interchangeably, but as a general rule, it is the white one that is the most documented. Indeed, the white deadnettle is listed in 68% of our books, while yellow, purple and spotted are found in less than 20% of our references.
- White deadnettle (Lamium album)
- Yellow deadnettle (Lamium galeobdolon)
- Red deadnettle (Lamium purpureum)
- Spotted deadnettle (Lamium maculatum)
If there is only one thing to remember about these four lamiers, it is that they are useful in case of leucorrhoea, or white discharge, or white flowers as they used to say.
Regarding the addition of plants, we are now giving our members the opportunity to choose which plants to include in our search tool; do not hesitate to let us know your preferences by email.
You asked us for borage and St. John’s wort, we’re working on it!
Addition of traditional uses 👏

First public release… ouh ah 👏
Our first public appearance was on June 3 and 4 in Mont-sous-Vaudrey during the “4th Congress of Integrative Medicine and Education”; our objective, of course, was to make ourselves known, but also to share our enthusiasm. It was a very rewarding experience, we met a lot of people with whom we talked about medicinal plants. We also met Dr. Philippe Meurin, one of the authors of “Herbal medicine between science and tradition” published by Amyris; a book that will join our library very soon.
A big thank you to all those who joined our non-profit organization and/or those who signed up for our newsletter. Your encouragement has given us wings! 💕
