Elegant, she was the best friend of the Virgin Queen of England, and is herself queen of her own kingdom. From the day humans discovered the powers of its salicylic acid, it ceased to be a mere inhabitant of the marshes; it became aspirin, a name forever etched in the collective memory and in the history of medicine. No matter how hard we try to imitate it, it always has a head start, because unlike its synthetic version, it takes care of us without upsetting our stomachs… Hats off to the meadowsweet, the true sovereign of our countryside and our health.
