News of September 2024!
What happened in September 2024 at Phyto-info… We'll tell you all about it!
Hello everyone 🌿
Birch is often one of the first trees to colonize wasteland or burnt land. He is a true pioneer who is preparing the ground for other species.
It is also a tree with a thousand uses: its bark was used to make shoes, roofs, canoes, it was even used as a writing medium. Its wood, for its part, was used for heating and the manufacture of objects. Birch also had the power to drive out evil spirits and our ancestors also used it for its plant properties.
The main species of birch that can be found in France are the silver birch (Betula pendula) and the downy birch (Betula pubescens). We recognize the first by its white bark which comes off in thin strips and by its young branches covered with warts and the last by its less white bark and its young hairy branches.
The silver birch and the downy birch, long considered to be a single species (Betula alba or white birch), are now the subject of a separate classification. This taxonomic modification, although now established, still generates confusion in the literature as well as on websites 🧐 But don’t let all this frighten you. Indeed, although slightly different botanically, these two species of birch share the same plant properties 🥰

Giving a voice to the forgotten ones 👏
Faced with the gradual abandonment of many medicinal plants, we are committed to promoting the lesser-known and least-studied ones.
Faced with the diversity of medicinal plants, when you start in this field, you instinctively turn to those whose properties are best documented. However, many plants, less studied but just as interesting, remain unknown to the general public. Efforts will therefore be made to fill this information gap by referencing these plants and by making reliable data on their plant properties accessible. Discover our article on this subject.
